LUCY SAMUEL Over one million women of child bearing age and children will benefit from various maternal and childcare services to be provided through the newly opened four-floor 110-bed Maternal and Childcare Centre (MCC). The specialised health facility built by the Lagos State government for women and children in Eti-Osa Local Government area of the State, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi disclosed. Abayomi who stated this recently after an inspection tour of the facility noted that the maternal and childcare centre which commenced operation on Saturday August 24, 2019 will impact positively on maternal and child health indices and help address the issue of access to maternal and childcare services in Eti-Osa local government area and environs. Chioma Umeha Lagos Folu Adediran, 17, a secondary school leaver who is an indigene and resident of a rural community in Apapa town in Lagos State has just obtained a scholarship to study Medicine in the USA. Folu visited the American Embassy to process her own visa. She came with complete documents, but she had a Church baptismal certificate to represent her birth certificate. During the screening, her application was rejected because she had no valid birth certificate. Unfortunately, she missed her scholarship admission. Folu is from a family of three. All of them were born in a Faith-based clinic and none of them have a birth certificate. Autism: Stakeholders Canvass Support For Affected Persons Through Technology At GTB Conference

LUCY SAMUEL Lagos To achieve a society inclusive for majority of persons living with autism, the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) has trained almost 15,000 people on how to manage Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Segun Agbaje, the Chief Executive Officer (C EO) of GTB, who disclosed this in Lagos, also said that while nearly 4,000 children have benefitted directly from free one-on-one consultation services by professionals in autism being driven and funded by GTB, more than 12,000 people have participated in the bank’s annual autism conferences geared to make autistic persons live independent lives.
